The implant technology that is currently used to locate lost pets has been adapted for humans in a variety of different uses. Implant wearers would emit a homing beacon that sends and receives data that would be continuously tracked by global positioning satellite technology. This can help find kidnapped children and missing persons, or be used by law enforcement to keep track of criminals under house arrest. The military would be able to locate their soldiers.
Another application is in the medical field, where it would monitor vital bodily functions, such as the user's heart rate and blood pressure. Businesses can also make use of this in confirming identity when making e-commerce transactions.
When the technology arose, protests came from civil liberties advocates, libertarians, electronic freedom activists, radical protest organizations, anarchists and religious groups who opposed the involuntary aspects of implanting such devices.
