A videoconference is a conference call that allows two or more participants in different locations to simultaneously interact via two-way video and audio. It uses computer networks to transmit the digital compression of audio and video streams in real time. It differs from a video telephone in that it serves a conference rather than individuals.
In the technology seen on 24, the videoconference uses a room-within-a-room environment along with life-size images and high-definition video to create a live, face-to-face meeting around a single “virtual” table. The users communicate as if they were sitting right next to each other
In the past, hardware costs made videoconferencing expensive, but many forecasters believe that it will be one of the fastest-growing segments of the computer industry.
