Technicians train for at least a year in learning to disarm various kinds of bombs. The Department of Defense combined all of its efforts in an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Training Facility at Eglin Air Force Base in Niceville, Florida to instruct bomb squads from all branches of the military. Local law enforcement bomb squads are assigned to the Division of Homeland Security and Investigations and are commanded by a tactical unit. They must be proficient in nuclear, chemical and biological warfare weaponry.
The old techniques of sweeping for and disarming mass-produced bombs required upgrades for current situations. Technicians in Iraq found that the guerrillas would piece together explosives using dynamite, household timers, motorcycle batteries and cordless telephones.
