24 Declassifed: Trojan Horse

Storyline
In the third Declassified book, when an on-line "Trojan Horse" detected by the CTU cyber unit sends up red flags, rogue operative Jack Bauer is called into action. He has less than twenty-four hours to prevent an unthinkable act of death and destruction from occurring - a televised massacre intended to topple a foreign government and bring terror into millions of American households.
The storyline for this book is another great one; it's original and involves something that's different to what has been seen in the TV series and other books, which is always a good thing to find. Personally, I liked the mission in Tijuana with Tony Almeida and Fay Hubley, as that was something completely different. However, I did not like Tony's random cold-blooding killing of all the Chechens; I understand that he was mad about the death of Fay Hubley, but in my opinion that was a bit out of character. Jack Bauer's storyline was good for this novel, especially with the introduction of his former co-worker, Frank Castalano. |

Characters
There are a whole host of new characters that are intertwined with ones from the series, such as Christopher Henderson, Ryan Chappelle, Nina Myers and Jamey Farell. New characters include Fay Hubley, an attractive CTU techie with a thing for Tony who doesn't seem to be in long enough to be appreciated, Frank Castolano, as mentioned above, is an interesting new character with a history with Jack that I would be interested to explore (although he seems to fizzle out after half of the novel is over), Richard Lesser, the antagonist who engineered the virus which was planning to corrupt the internet, all make appearances within the CTU/Jack Bauer stoyline.
People involved in Tony's storyline in Mexico include Ray Dobyns, a small-time Mexican criminal who gives Tony's location to the Chechens, Brandy, a.k.a FBI agent Reneta Hernandez helps the team get out of Mexico after the escape from the Chechens and Cole Keegan, Richard Lesser's bodyguard who helped rescue Tony.
|
Teri Bauer also has a storyline, involving terrorists at the
Silver Screen Awards which she attends.
Carla Adair a.k.a Carla Matherson from Season 2 is a friend of Teri's who is having her baby whilst at the concert. Other friends of Teri who make appearances include
Megan Gleason and
Chandra Washington. Antagonists at the awards include
Bastian Grost who organises the siege and
Abigail Heyer, a hostile posing as a celebrity.
24 Relevance
One again, the chapter annoyingly get shorter and shorter the further into the novel you get; I have no idea why this happens in just about every Declassified novel, but it really bugs me - I was very aware that I was 3/4 of the way through the book at Chapter 14. There are two other points I have to raise with this novel:
|
 |
(1)
Chip Manning. Now, in other books Curits Manning has been referred to as
Chip (I'm pretty sure at one point Tony said "That new guy, Chip something,"), but in this, he is a supposed movie star. Now I'm pretty sure that before coming a federal agent Curtis was not a famous karate-movie celebrity. I think Marc Cerasini just likes to play with our minds.
(2)
Edgar Stiles. If I were Louis Lombardi (the actor behind Edgar) I would be very hurt with the description given of Edgar at the start of 12am-1am. To see the extract, click the image to the right; it really is quite hurtful.
Out of the first three
Declassified novels, I think this one is my favourite. Despite the ridiculously short chapters towards the end and a few supposed continuity errors, it has a great storyline, and some innovative ideas.
